The labia minora (inner lips) can be enlarged or asymmetric either from birth, or they can become large and protruding with age. In some cases, women may feel extreme discomfort during intercourse, some sport activities such as bicycle riding, or when wearing tight clothes. Some women feel self-conscious and may therefore wish to have some of the labia that cover the clitoris removed. The aim of labiaplasty is to normalise the size and form of the inner labia. Labiaplasty can be performed without producing major scars or reducing the sensitivity.
